Safeguarding

Child Protection Statement

Our core safeguarding principles are:

"There are very effective procedures for safeguarding children on both sites. Leaders, including governors, have ensured that safeguarding arrangements are fit for purpose. Robust checks on staff are carried out before they take up a post, to check that they are suitable to work with children. Staff attend regular training to keep their knowledge up to date. Some staff members are taught to deliver safeguarding training to others. Leaders ensure that any concerns are followed up rigorously and record-keeping is exemplary. A culture of vigilance permeates every aspect of the school."

About Safeguarding

The Child protection policy along with other school documents (including, Safer Recruitment, Staff Handbook, Managing Allegations Against Staff policy, Behaviour Policy, Intimate Care Policy, Whistleblowing Policy and Acceptable Internet Use Policy) ensures safeguarding procedures are followed at Slated Row School.

We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice.

The procedures contained in this policy apply to all staff and governors  and are consistent with those of the Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children ‘s Board (MKSCB). MKSCB works partnership with schools including Slated Row to promote the welfare of children and young people, and to ensure they are safe from harm.

As part of our work we will receive information from partner agencies, such as the police and social care.  In the interest of the child or young person, this information will only occur to help us protect and promote the welfare of your son or daughter.  When there is any sharing of information, we will discuss this with you to enable a partnership approach.

We log all incidents using CPOMS, all staff are trained how to use this system and DSL monitor this regularly to inform are safe working practices. (Please see the button below to login).

As a school we teach safeguarding as part of our curriculum for all key stages.  Students are taught how to raise concerns and this is promoted around both school sites.

Prevent Strategy

Prevent Statement

Preventing Radicalisation in School

Building resilience in our young people and the promotion of fundamental British values is at the heart of preventing radicalisation. We do this by providing a safe place in which children can discuss issues, and we aim to give them the knowledge and confidence to challenge extremist beliefs and ideologies.

Our prevent duty is carried out under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, which legally requires us to take steps to prevent pupils from being drawn into terrorism.

We recognise that we play a vital role in keeping children safe from harm, including from the risks of extremism and radicalisation, and in promoting the welfare of children in our care.

What we do if there is a concern

If we have a concern about a particular pupil we will follow the school’s normal safeguarding procedures, including discussing with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and where deemed necessary, with children’s social care.

We may also contact the local police force or dial 101 (the non-emergency number). They can talk to us in confidence about concerns and help us gain access to support and advice.

The Department for Education has dedicated a telephone helpline (020 7340 7264) to enable staff and governors to raise concerns relating to extremism directly. Concerns can also be raised by email to counter.extremism@education.gsi.gov.uk Please note that the helpline is not intended for use in emergency situations, such as a child being at immediate risk of harm or a security incident. In an emergency situation we will follow the recommended emergency procedures.

Prevent Risk Assessment

The school has a Prevent Risk Assessment to ensure we are meeting our prevent duty. See Safeguarding Policies and key documents above.
