Meet our Senior Teachers

Jonathan Budd

Executive Headteacher, The Aspire Federation

Jonathan Budd took up the Headship at Slated Row in September 2014 and has led the school to another Outstanding Ofsted in 2018. He is the Executive Headteacher of The Aspire Federation which consists of Slated Row School and The Walnuts School.  

He has been the Head at Slated Row School since September 2014, and along with his team achieved an Outstanding Ofsted in 2018.

Jonathan has his National Professional Qualification in Headship (NPQH) and has completed a number of post-graduate studies in Special Educational Needs & Autism with Cambridge, Birmingham and Hertfordshire Universities. He is dedicated to professional development, not only of himself but others to. He has been a member of the strategic board for a teaching school alliance for a number of years, and worked with a number of initial teacher training providers, including as a Partner Head. He also provides support to other providers and their leaders. 

Before moving to MK he was a member of a Senior Leadership Team in an all-age special school (4-16) in London between 2006 & 2014. During this time he developed the primary & early years provisions, as well as holding whole school responsibilities for Assessment, English, ICT & Health & Safety. During this time he taught from Reception to exams in various subjects for Key Stage 4. 

When working for the Specialist Advisory Service in Hertfordshire he specialised in pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Social Communication Difficulties. Through this role he advised staff and parents and worked with pupils from pre-school to secondary schools. He completed training for individuals, whole school staff as well as centralised Local Authority Training.

He qualified as a primary teacher (PE specialism) going straight into Colnbrook School, an outstanding special school, where he was the ICT Leader for three years. 

Previous to becoming a teacher he had a number of roles working with young people including Teaching Assistant (ASD Base), Sports Coach, Lifeguard and Play Leader.

Zoë Baines

Head of School, Slated Row School

Zoë Baines joined Slated Row School in April 2014 after holding roles as Assistant Head and Vice Principal in mainstream secondary schools. Zoë has been designated lead for Child Protection in the school since 2016. Zoe became the Head of School in 2019. She is pivotal to the school's leadership and this was recognised by inspectors in the 2018 Outstanding Ofsted.

Zoë has her National Professional Qualification in Headship (NPQH), and is a Senior Leader in Education trainer and a Positive Behaviour Support coach.  Zoë  has extensive experience leading the pastoral systems in schools. She has held a number of middle management roles, including Head of girls PE, School Sports Coordinator, Key stage 3 progress leader and a head of year for year groups 7 – 11. During which she demonstrated strong and motivational leadership for students, parents and members of staff for eight years in Hertfordshire.

Jonny Austin

Deputy Headteacher

Jonny Austin took on the role of Deputy Headteacher in September 2020. He  joined Slated Row in September 2016 as Assistant Head. In January 2018 he became the Campus Leader for the Wolverton Site and was a part of the 2018 Outstanding Ofsted judgement. 

He has spent 14 years working in mainstream secondary schools in Milton Keynes, London and the north of England.  His roles have covered both the academic and pastoral, teaching a variety of subjects to the full ability and age range of secondary school.  As well as teaching English and media studies, Jonny was KS3 Co-coordinator for English before becoming Director of Studies and guiding his year group of approximately 220 students from years 7 - 10.  On moving to Milton Keynes he took on the role of Head of House at The Radcliffe School.

Jonny is an experienced practitioner and as an Assistant Head at Slated Row, oversees Reception, Lower school, Middle School and KS3, alongside whole school assessment, EHCP and Student Voice.

Luke Colvin

Assistant Headteacher, Primary 

Luke Colvin joined Slated Row School in April 2015, following a successful final teaching placement in the school. After completing his NQT year in 2016, he became part of the Middle Leadership Team as Curriculum Leader for Expressive Arts. In 2019, Luke was elected as a Co-Opted Governor for the Aspire Federation and in September 2020, joined the Senior Team as Acting Assistant Headteacher responsible for Reception, Lower and Middle School.

The majority of Luke’s time spent teaching at Slated Row has been spent in a Structured class. With this, he has attended a 3 day TEACCH course and 2 day Attention Autism course. Luke has worked alongside Professor Barry Carpenter and Jo Egerton to complete a research based enquiry entitled ‘How does a personal sensory diet help to engage children in writing activities?’ He has completed his NPQML which included a school wide project to investigate the effectiveness of using Colourful Semantics to increase spontaneous interactions to support progress towards achieving EHCP outcomes.

Shelley Hadden

Assistant Headteacher, Key Stage 3

Shelley Hadden was a part of the Senior Leadership Team for the 2018 Outstanding Ofsted. She is currently responsible for Key Stage 3 and Continued Professional Development and Outreach. She has her NPQML (National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership) and is a Specialist Leader in Education.  She has trained with BILD to become a coach for Positive Behaviour Support in Schools and has recently passed the training to carry out Functional Behaviour Analysis Assessments to aid the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans for our students.

Shelley went back into mainstream for two years in 2014, where she worked as a SENCO and Year Group Leader in a mainstream primary school. During this time she was a P Scales moderator across the Local Authority. 

Shelley is an outstanding classroom practitioner having 7 years experience in mainstream prior to joining Slated Row in 2005. She has been a part of all four 'Outstanding' Ofsted inspections, as a class teacher, middle leader and senior leader. 

Before going back into mainstream Shelley was a middle leader at Slated Row. She has worked across all the age groups on the Wolverton Site (Reception to Year 9). 

Dorrie Mutch

Assistant Headteacher, Kents Hill

Dorrie Mutch joined the senior team in September 2016 and has been the lead on the Kents Hill Campus since it opened in January 2018, and was part of the 2018 Outstanding Ofsted. She has been a part of the middle leadership team since 2000, holding the posts of curriculum leader, moving on to Middle School Leader and Head of Post 16. She has her NPQML (National Professional Qualification in Middle Leadership). 

Dorrie has been the 'Designated Lead' for Child Protection in the school since 2001, a role she continues to this day. Within this role she has a number of qualifications enabling her to complete the role and support others. Safeguarding children is an area that she feels passionately about, and trains staff beyond the statutory requirements.

Dorrie is an excellent classroom practitioner having 7 years experience in mainstream prior to joining Slated Row in 1999. She has been a part of all four 'Outstanding' Ofsted inspections, as a class teacher, middle leader and senior leader.
